Executive Functioning Support

Building Calm Pathways When Life Feels Cluttered

Man stressed and overwhelmed with many 'to-do' lists. Therapy for burnout and executive function overwhelm in Vancouver.

When your mind feels cluttered, scattered, or constantly behind, there’s a reason, and it’s not because you’re failing.
Executive functioning is how we plan, prioritize, and follow through, and it’s deeply connected to our nervous system and lived experiences.

When you’ve moved through long periods of pressure, trauma, or chronic stress, your brain learns to survive by focusing on safety, not structure.
That same survival mode can make everyday tasks, like organizing, remembering, or starting something new, feel heavier than they should.

But these patterns aren’t signs of weakness; they’re signs of wisdom.
Your brain and body have been doing their best to protect you.
With support, awareness, and compassion, it’s possible to shift from survival to steadiness to rebuild trust in your mind’s capacity and find small, sustainable ways to bring order, clarity, and calm back into your days.

These Challeges May Look Like:

Knowing what you need to do but feeling unable to start

Forgetting things that matter, even when you care deeply

Constantly feeling “behind,” even when you’re working hard

A cycle of burnout, perfectionism, or procrastination

Feeling paralyzed by decision fatigue or mental clutter

These aren’t character flaws. They’re signals from a system that’s been running in overdrive, and they’re absolutely workable.

Themes We May Explore

  • Understanding your energy patterns and natural rhythms

  • How trauma or chronic stress impacts focus and follow-through

  • Reframing “laziness” or “procrastination” as protective responses

  • Building routines that align with your nervous system’s needs

  • Using mindful awareness to recognize when you’re in survival mode

  • Reconnecting with joy, curiosity, and creativity after burnout

  • Shifting from self-criticism to self-compassion

  • Practicing boundaries that protect your time and energy

  • Creating supportive environments that reduce cognitive load

My Approach

We begin small; identifying one manageable step, one small anchor that helps you feel a little more grounded and capable. I often draw on activity analysis and chaining, breaking down tasks into simple, doable parts that build confidence and momentum. These methods honour your nervous system’s need for safety and success, while gently expanding your capacity over time.

My approach blends trauma-informed counselling with occupational therapy principles, connecting the mind, body, and environment. This isn’t about fixing or forcing it’s about understanding your patterns, finding what works for your brain, and gradually creating rhythms that feel steady and supportive.

It’s about creating a life that fits you, not forcing yourself into one that doesn’t.

For Parents, Teens, and Families

Woman or teen doing chores to work on routines and executive functioning. Counselling for anxiety, burnout and overwhelm in Vancouver.

Executive functioning challenges affect the whole household.
I also support parents and teens in creating home systems that reduce tension and increase understanding.

Together, we explore how to:

  • Scaffold routines and transitions with compassion

  • Support emotional regulation (for both parent and child)

  • Build collaborative strategies that nurture self-trust and independence

This work isn’t about “fixing” anyone, it’s about creating clarity, communication, and calm for everyone involved.
